Ingredients for 20 Liters of Bleach:

  1. Water: 14.8 liters (14,800 ml)
  2. Sodium hypochlorite (active ingredient): 5.2 liters (5,200 ml)

Equipment Needed:

  • A clean 20-liter mixing container (plastic or non-reactive material)
  • Measuring tools (graduated containers for liquids)
  • Stirring rod or mixing paddle
  • Protective gear: gloves, goggles, apron, and mask

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Water

  1. Measure 14.8 liters of water and pour it into the mixing container.
  2. Ensure the water is cool or at room temperature (not hot, as heat can degrade the sodium hypochlorite).
  3. Important: Use clean, distilled, or filtered water to avoid impurities that may react with the sodium hypochlorite.

Step 2: Add Sodium Hypochlorite

  1. Measure 5.2 liters of sodium hypochlorite using a precise graduated container.
  2. Slowly pour the sodium hypochlorite into the water while stirring gently.
    • Caution: Always add the sodium hypochlorite to water, not the other way around, to prevent splashing or a potential exothermic reaction.
  3. Stir continuously for 5–10 minutes to ensure the solution is well-mixed and homogeneous.

Final Checks:

  1. Appearance: The bleach solution should be clear to pale yellow with no separation or cloudiness.
  2. Concentration: Verify the desired concentration of the solution (if needed) by calculating the percentage of sodium hypochlorite in the final mixture.

Storage Instructions:

  1. Transfer the bleach into clean, labeled storage containers with secure caps.
  2. Store the containers in a cool, dark, and ventilated area away from sunlight and heat, as exposure can degrade the sodium hypochlorite.
  3. Keep bleach away from acids, ammonia, and other reactive chemicals to avoid dangerous reactions.

Safety Precautions:

  • Wear protective gear to avoid skin contact and inhalation of fumes.
  • Use the bleach within its shelf life (typically 3–6 months) to ensure effectiveness.
  • Clearly label the containers to prevent misuse or accidental ingestion.

Following this process will ensure you produce a high-quality, safe, and effective 20-liter batch of bleach.
